Blanc Bistro is back.

Blanc Bistro is back, in a new permutation at O’Connell St North Adelaide. It is as good as ever.

We started with their Signature Oysters – freshly crumbed with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. They were as light as light could be and demolished by the four of us. Everything was pronounced excellent. The wine list was viewed happily by my slightly fussy partner. Joy of joy, his rare steak was rare and the potatoes with it looked irresistible. The restaurant has gone for an elegant but modern look and service was great. The menu and wine list are both online.

It is, of course, predominantly a seafood restaurant, but non-seafood eaters are catered for in fine style. My mother will be very happy. Rack of lamb, a stuffed poussin which I will have to try, Coonawarra beef have stayed in my memory.

Parking is easy in the underground carpark and free for the first two hours.

We missed this wonderful restaurant after it changed hands and the brothers Eric, Sam and Norman Thanakamonnum moved to Currie St. Without them The Blanc on Hutt rapidly went downhill. Remember it at its original best and go to North Adelaide for more of the same.

Postscript: we did go back three days later. The stuffed poussin was positively demolished. The carpaccio of king fish and salmon was divine.
